The width of the nose can be narrowed by removing a wedge of skin from the ala—the hood of skin over the nostril on each side. The skin is usually removed in such a way that the scar is hidden in the crease between the ala and the cheek.

The final request associated with nose jobs does not involve the nose directly. People who feel their noses are too large frequently perceive this because a weak chin makes their nose seem relatively larger.
