Top Five Nose Job Requests

A Blog on Types of Rhinoplasty by Dr. Loftus

We rated the top five nose job requests our practice sees in our offices. Nose reshaping or rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. A large, disproportionate or misshapen nose can detract from your perceived facial attractiveness. Rhinoplasty can dramatically improve the appearance of the face.

Bulbous or Boxy Tip

A large rounded or squared tip can be improved by reducing, refining and reshaping the cartilage that makes up the tip of the nose. Reducing excess cartilage corrects the excess fullness. Stitches and small cartilage grafts refine and strengthen the new shape. A more subtle, feminine tip results.

Hump

A hump or bump on the top of the nose makes the nose look bigger and more harsh. The hump results from an excess of bone and cartilage on the top of the nose. Correction involves precisely removing small amounts of the excess with a file (plastic surgeons call it a rasp). A smaller, more delicate nose results.

Over Projected Tip

This is when your tip sticks out too far. The tip cartilages are reduced to create the desired amount of projection. Afterwards, the face looks more balanced on side view.

Wide Nose

The ideal Caucasian nose is no wider than the space between the eyes. A wide nose looks large when viewed from the front. The width of the nose can be narrowed by removing a wedge of skin from the ala—the hood of skin over the nostril on each side. The skin is usually removed in such a way that the scar is hidden in the crease between the ala and the cheek.

Chin Implant

The final request associated with nose jobs does not involve the nose directly. People who feel their noses are too large frequently perceive this because a weak chin makes their nose seem relatively larger. Chin implants are frequently placed at the time of rhinoplasty to balance the face further, in addition to making the nose more proportional. This is probably one of the most under rated procedures in plastic surgery. It can make a huge difference.

Nose reshaping is one of the most rewarding procedures to perform as a plastic surgeon because patients generally feel much more confident and attractive after surgery. Check out this page for more information on incisions and recovery. Rhinoplasty is a very safe operation, however, there are risks like any surgery—learn more about these rhinoplasty risks. Our plastic surgeons specialize in creating natural results—learn about our rhinoplasty tips that will help speed your recovery and avoid problems. Finally, you will want to look at some before and after rhinoplasty pictures to see the improved balance rhinoplasty brought to these patients’ faces.
